Nohoch Ma’ac

Ever since I visited this restaurant, it has been one of my favorites. The meals taste home cooked. It tastes like just enough salt is used, so the flavor of the food itself is not lost.

Nohoch Ma’ac is located just south of Bridgett’s Nutri Cocina. Like Bridgett’s, you will find great value here. This is as local as it gets.

Breakfast US$2.50
Eggs, beans, longaniza sausage, fresh corn tortillas or toast
Pork or chicken tacos are 3 for US$0.50

Fresh juices US$0.75
Orange, lime and tamarind (known locally as tambran). A rice and milk drink called Horchata is also available.

Lunch US$2.50 to US$5.00
Stewed chicken, roast chicken, fresh fried snappers, beef soup, rice and beans, white rice and stewed beans

Nohoch Ma’ac is Mayan for “gran hombre” in Spanish or “great man” in English; aptly so for it’s owner Mr. Domingo Perez. Mr. Perez understands Mayan fully and speaks it well.

The dining area is small and cozy. Once inside, you tend to forget that just a few feet away is the fruit and vegetable market. If you look out the windows, you will see the bustle of suppliers making deliveries to the market vendors, while locals shop for the freshest fruits and veggies.

The walls of the dining area are adorned with hand painted murals, both forest and marine. Occasionally, Belizean specials like Sere and Mondongo are served for lunch. The coldest Belikin beer is also served here. A beer connoisseur himself, Mr. Perez knows the lure of an ice cold Belikin on a hot Belizean day!

Nohoch Ma’ac Perez is a great source of information for politics, history and Meztizo culture.

Nohoch Ma’ac serves the best breakfasts in Orange Walk — all prepared by Ms. Osi! I haven’t been there for a while, but I remember the great discussions my brother-in-law and I had over breakfast there a few months ago. We stopped by many times during his stay in Belize. The owner, Domingo, is a terrific guy — extremely knowledgeable about so many topics on Belize. It’s great to have a verbal sparring session with him now and again. I highly recommend Nohoch Ma’ac!

I have read all the features…you should feature Icebreak on Park street it very close to Hotel de la Fuente. Its not a retaurant but im sure tourits have a sweet tooth sometimes and its a great place for icecream treats , frappucinos and smoothies and light snaks such as nachos etc. Colorful ambiance in a.c comfort..free wifi too. nice for kids.one of my favorite place.

Had a great lunch at NoHoch Ma’ac. Service is the best i have seen in a while. I’m very skeptic but this waiter knew how to make the customer feel at home and always waiting to see if we needed anything else. Thanks for making it a good first lunch there.
The fresh juices are the best, not the pound of sugar some restaurants call juice.

Will be back to try other items on the menu.
