Nahil Mayab Restaurant and Patio

Nahil Mayab is definitely THE place for fine dining in Orange Walk.

It is one of the few restaurants in Orange Walk that is air conditioned. The bar is comfy and makes just about every mixed or frozen drink you desire.  Outdoor dining is available in the patio. A small waterfall and lush, healthy plants make the patio very inviting.

The owner Osmany Salas works as manager a few nights per week, though his profession is in natural resources management and policy. He is a great source of information for tourist destinations throughout Belize.

Nahil Mayab recently revised their menu to include a multitude of options.

Appetizers range from US$4.00 to US$8.00. The buffalo wings and the pork salpicon are good.

Lunch: US$5.00 – US$10.00. Like all restaurants in Belize, rice and beans, stewed chicken, potato salad and fried plantains are served daily. The club sandwich is a value meal.

Dinner: US$10.00 – US$15.00. The setting at Nahil Mayab for dinner offers the perfect balance of ambient lighting, mood and energy.  It is the best place for a 3 course meal complete with wine.

A favourite for my daughter Bianca is the Pasta Alfredo Chicken.  It’s creamy and rich, served with a Cesar’s Salad and garlic bread.  Creamy Mushroom Chicken  continues to be an all time favourite.

The Sirloin steaks are a vast improvement from the opening days of the restaurant.  You should expect that most restaurants only know how to grill a steak either well done or medium well.  This may not be a bad thing from a food safety standpoint, since the food industry is so lightly regulated here.

Both lunch and dinner menus offer some inspirations from across the border in Mexico, such as chicken, beef, and shrimp fajita. Nahil Mayab won the  “Best of Belize” at the 2010 “Taste of Belize” culinary competition, held annually by the Belize Tourism Board.  Since then, a new page called “Yucatan Mayan Inspired Entrees” has been added to the dinner menu.

Happy Hour is from 5pm – 7pm, everyday, with all night Happy Hour on Fridays.

True to its motto, Nahil Mayab is certainly “a tropical oasis in the heart of Orange Walk Town”.

This has to be the best restaurant in Orange Walk.

The service and ambience is great. And the prices are just right. It’s clean and well kept, and not the type of place for a bar fight. It’s hard to find a flaw in this place.

The shrimp quesadillas are heavenly and if you find better mojitos in town, let me know. If they could add curry and lasagna to the menu, I’d be there right now.

You missed the playground area. My kid likes to hang out back there.
